Near-Earth objects are a source of raw materials including gold, palladium, platinum, tungsten, etc. These materials can be mined from an asteroid, spent comet, or moons, and then used in space for construction materials or taken back to Earth.
Department of AM designed as educator, researcher, and developer of asteroid mining ideology, methodology, and engineering technology.
IAAA is oriented to participation in scientific and engineering research directed to the development of technology and instrumentation for extraterrestrial mining.
Also, IAAA is oriented on the development of educational curriculums for teaching scientist and engineers with advanced knowledge in astroplanetary engineering (AE) and specialization in extraterrestrial / astroplanetary mining (AM).
It will be the first educational program in astroplanetary mining with a degree in applied astrophysics.
Another astroplanetary engineering educational program includes teaching and training of engineers with specialization in astroplanetary defense (AD).
In 2016 NASA scientists warned that the Earth is unprepared for collision with an asteroid or any other space body. The same opinion had astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, and discussed it in his book “Brief Answers to the Big Questions”. The author considered an asteroid collision to be the biggest threat to the Earth.
In spite of growing request of space industry to astroplanetary defense experts no one university worldwide have certified educational programs in planetary defense engineering and technology. Currently, such a program is in the process of design and development at IAAA and will be introduced for students and professors.
It will be the first educational astroplanetary defence curriculum developed for degree in Applied Astrophysics. So, IAAA has a good opportunity to be the first and the only one owner of astroplanetary defense educational program directed to teaching students with degree in applied astrophysics and certificate program for retraining scientists and engineers with specialization in defense astrophysic.
